A good mic, but not the best,
So, after using this mic nearly every day for about a week now, I think that I can give a pretty good review for this mic. I had originally bought this mic after my Microsoft headset mic broke and because it looked cool. Many people will be comparing this to the COD MW throat mic and although I haven’t ever used it, I can tell you what the differences are. The first is the earphone that goes into your ear. This throat mic uses a over the ear design meaning you have to put the cord around the back of your ear and the earbud goes into your ear upside down. The picture shows it being worn without putting it over your ear and although it is possible, it felt a little wierd and very noticeable in my ear the entire time I wore it. Also, these come with 3 pairs of rubber earbuds (s,m,l) whereas the MW one doesn’t. The other difference is that these are adjustable. Many people complained that the MW throat mic was really uncomfortable because it was too small. I don’t think that this throat mic solves that problem if you have a large neck, but if the MW mic was a little too small for you then this might help. The reason is that at the longest, the band only extends about a little more that a quarter of an inch on each side for a total exstention of half an inch. Another reviewer said that it has 4 settings, but he might been mistaken because it only has 3 (default, half extended, and fully extended). Lastly is the mic quality and sound. As I’ve said before, I haven’t tried the MW mic so I cant really compare here, but I think that the quality of the mic is pretty good. I tried recording am audio message and my voice sounds pretty clear. I also switched from my turtle beach x41 headset for tue week that I had these and didn’t tell my friends that I was using a new mic. After a week, I asked them if I sounded any different and they told me that they didn’t even notice although sometimes the sound was kinda quiet. The audio that comes through earbud is really good as well and voices come through loud and clear. Now for the cons: sometimes my friends will tell me it sounds like I’m rubbing the mic. What causes this is that, when fully extended to fit my neck, the mic will stick to the skin on my neck when I get a little hot. To fix that, I only extend the mic halfway so that the section of the mic doest make contact with my skin. One other thing, you have to be careful if you’re adjusting the mic while wearing it because it will pinch your skin. Other than that, the mic does what it’s supposed to, but there are definitely some better mica our there.

|Not bad at all…,
I originally got this throat mic because I wanted a headset that would work well with my over-the-ear headphones that I use for sound. I had the Microsoft wireless headset, but I couldn’t use it with my headphones. Anyway, the throat mic is a pretty good solution for me since I can just put the little earwig underneath my headphones. The voices sound completely clear on the earwig – more so than my Microsoft headset, for sure. Also, I typically have a fan running, and now I don’t sound like I’m playing in a wind tunnel…
The only complaint my friends have about the switch is that it can be difficult to clearly hear my S’s with the throat mic, so I sometimes sound as if I have a little lisp. They can understand me just fine, though. The one time they mentioned I was hard to understand, I shifted the mic a little lower on my throat and it sounded fine again. I’m a little worried about Mad Catz durability, but so far the mic has exceeded my expectations.
As far as size goes, I was really worried at first. I opened it up and it only went a little over halfway around my neck (my neck is 20-21″). However, as I mentioned, my friends can hear me just fine, so I guess it goes far enough. Also, it’s comfortable enough even on a neck my size that I usually forget it’s there.
It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s not bad for what it is, and it’s a good solution for someone like me who wants to use the nice headphones they already own instead of hemorrhaging money for a good compatible set of headphones w/mic. I’m happy…

|Well worth the money!,
This product works just fine. I read lots of reviews before buying the Mad Catz Throat Comm, so I will try to address many of the issues that people had with the comm.
First of all, a few people said that it didn’t hear them at all. I don’t see how that’s possible, considering that the comm seems to be using a normal microphone. I even took off the mic, holding it at arm’s length, and it still heard me just fine. I did have a few tries when I first got the mic where it wouldn’t hear me. This was because it comes out of the box turned off. I suspect this is what happened to most people.
Many people have reviewed the throat comm by saying that it’s too small. I’m about 200 lbs and have a 16.5 in. neck and this comm still fit perfectly around my neck. It left about 3-4 inches in the front of my neck. It comes with 4 levels of adjustment (2 on each side), and a pad that can adhere to the back of the comm. I wear the throat comm on the smallest setting. I recommend putting the padding on the back of the comm, even if you have a larger neck. The comm will wear at your neck if you don’t.
Multiple reviews have said that it can hear them, but it cuts sounds out, or mumbles their speech. Playing online and recording my own voice, I haven’t had this problem. As I said, the throat comm uses a normal mic, so it should be able to hear everything just fine. The only thing my friends online have said is that it sounds like I’m a little further away from the mic (which makes sense, because it’s around my neck instead of in front of my mouth), but they could hear everything just fine.
The only downside I can see to the throat mic is the ear piece; it is clearly made for the right ear. Because I prefer wearing it in my left ear, I just wrap the ear piece over my ear. This allows the curved ear bud to fit into the left ear without any difficulty.
I bought this product because I have migraine headaches. If I wear the headset for more than an hour or two, I will have a headache for the rest of the day. The throat comm may not have the sound quality of a Turtle Beach, but for the price and company, it’s well worth the money!
