Dragons of Norrath is a great enhancement of the game., March 30, 2005

I think Dragons of Norrath is a great enhancement to EverQuest. It takes away many of the things that drive you nuts when play an otherwise engrossing game and allows you to focus more on the fun aspects of the game. The reason why I say this is because of the addition of the Guild Hall and Guild Lobby. The guild hall freezes the timer on all buffs. This is huge. One of the biggest problems with playing Everquest is getting a group together that is completely ready to play. Now your group can get the buffs they need and go to the guild hall while they wait on the other members of the group to get prepared. While this sounds like a minor thing, buffs become very important to the survivability of a group when you get to the Mid-40′s in level. Good buffs also mean less downtime between fights, which translates to better action and more fun.

The other great thing about the Guild Hall and Guild Lobby is the convience of things. There is a bank, merchant, and all needed Tradeskill items (forge, loom, kiln…) in the guild hall. Since tradeskills are needed for many of the quest, this makes it very convient to get the skills to a good level without running all over the Map trying to do things. Another item that is located in the guild hall is the regeneration pool. This is a fantastic place to practice and get your spell skills up to par, since the mana and health regeneration rates are doubled while standing int he pool. In the guild I am in, there are always characters hanging around the regen pool that will get your character all buffed up, and since the buff timer is frozen in the Guild hall, the buffs are in full force once you decide to leave.

Also, the addition of the Magus in the Guild Lobby and the Corpse summoners is a great addition. If you have ever been in a situation where it would be VERY difficult to retrieve your corpse then you understand how great it would be to simply pay some platinum pieces and have your corpse brought to you in a friendly zone. Since the Plane Of Knowlege has easy access to all of the buffs a character needs, your character is back to playing in a few minutes verses the hour or so it can sometimes take to get back to speed. With the Magus available, there is no longer a need to travel to a wayfarer camp to get the LDoN adventures. You can simply wait in the guild hall and wait for your group to form, then go right to the zone needed for the LDoN adventure.

If you notice, I have not even mentioned the missions that come with Dragons of Norrath. That is because I am not yet high enough to go on them. So I cannot refute the previous reviewers statements, but I believe the simple addition of the Guild Hall makes the upgrade worthwhile all by itself. This addition takes away many of the annoying aspect of Everquest. In fact I am now playing Everquest more than ever before just because the enjoyment factor has gone up immensely.

I have to disaggree with the reviewer that stated there are no new people playing EverQuest. On some of the older servers that is true, but on Stromm (The suggested newbie server in the instruction manual) the population of new characters is very healthy.

This is a very useful expansion to have. The Guild Lobby is invaluable, used for recovering your corpse, you can search for new guilds, or you can advertise your guild on the bulletin board. There’s a handy Magus in there, giving you the ability to travel to various places in Norrath. Not to mention the in-game email system too.

In the Guild Hall, you can refresh your health and mana by using the healing pool, there’s a bank, and there are some tradeskill equipment in there too, along with the augmentation bird bath. Also there is a Guild Bank where you can share items with your guild.

On top of that, you can get DoNs (similar to LDoNs), new armor, new spells, and all the usual stuff.

    I love this expansion!

ok…I have been playing EQ for over 5 years. Now I’m backing off. SOE have changed lot in this game. Trust me..they changed it. If y’all like be in Raids alot then this the game is for you but be warned…..you will get lots of lags, no EXP plus you will help some folks with the stuff they need. You be lucky if get something out of this raid. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to get everyone round up for the raid. I am talking about almost the whole zone. Sheeze. I got real life to worry about. As for the quest to do ..it takes a long time to get it done. Once you hit lvl 65 ….you will have a tuff time getting spells you need. You either have to get large group of folks to keel something for a spell or ….if are one rich porky…then you can buy at the bazaar which they go for over 100K or more. The Everquest use to be fun 5 years ago…but now…its the gutter. That is my side of story. No problem with graphics and all that…it just what I have mentioned above. I’m just disappointed in EQ.
